Pronunciation of name[edit]

Does anyone know how she pronounces her name? Like LY-la, or LAY-la. You pronounce her name LAY-la. from paul

does anyone know how she influenced society?

She pronounces her name as LAY-la. In my opinion, with a little help from Christy Martin, the Webber sisters and others, she gave women's boxing exposure, now some women's fights are main events, which several years ago, it women's boxing was seen as a joke. Maya Levy 05:03, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Women's boxing is still a joke that nearly all are uninterested in. Layla is able to have her fights as main events only because she carries the Ali name and is drop-dead beautiful.-24.186.220.44 04:31, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm sure her 24 opponents would disagree with that statement.Big Poppa Ray (talk) 15:12, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Cleanup[edit]

There's a lot of good information here, but the article needs to have more standardized formatting. Please also see WP:CITE for advice on formatting references. If you have questions, let us know! --Elonka 01:43, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

why at the end does it says she is in the porn industry now. She is not! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.32.81.254 (talkcontribs) 16:06, February 21, 2007
Looks like it was just random vandalism. It's cleaned up now, but if you see that kind of thing again, and there doesn't appear to be any kind of proof that the information has a reliable source, feel free to remove it on the spot. --Elonka 23:51, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Super Middleweight[edit]

Laila is listed as a Super Middleweight, which would be 161–168 lbs., but the Super Middleweight link takes one to a Wiki article that seems to apply only to men. Are the weight divisions the same in women's boxing? Does anyone know what Laila's fighting weight is?Lanternshine 08:11, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

It says that she is 175lbs in the Trivia section of the article which would make her not Super Middleweight.. she could have possibly lost weight for DWTS Save-Me-Oprah 18:05, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Her regular weight is 175. When training for a fight, she loses seven pounds (not uncommon for boxers), which brings her fighting weight to 168. The documentary Daddy's Girl shows how she barely made weight for the Gwendolyn O'Neil fight.Big Poppa Ray (talk) 15:06, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Stepchildren?[edit]

I believe that the age of her stepchildren should be updated considering I had Cameron and Kelton in my 7th grade classes in 2007-2008 and it is now 2010. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 113.227.6.229 (talk) 09:07, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Should it be mentioned that she now has three stepchildren through her marriage to Curtis? (MgTurtle 19:54, 23 July 2007 (UTC)).

Religion[edit]

I can just about accept it is of some interest what her religion is given her father and his very public conversion and all that went with it. However what is said is she is a "former Muslim" whereas the link takes us to an article where it is stated she had many disagreement with her father “including her not choosing Islam as her religion”.

Th impression thaty gives me is that she never was a Muslim (althougb rpobably brought up as one) and has even possibly chosen another religion which is not quite the same impression as saying she's a former Muslim which implies she ws a Muslim as a conscious (adult) choice and now isn't.PhilomenaO'M (talk) 16:45, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

Ali states on Facebook that she is not Muslim. Contradictory to this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wheeler1 (talkcontribs) 12:41, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

Corrections to Sandell fight text[edit]

I removed two unsupported (and apparently inaccurate) sentences:

The decision was heavily disputed. The audience booed Ali during her post-fight interview.[21].

I substituted this text: Following Ali's hard right to Sandell's face with 17 seconds remaining in Round 5, Sandell was struck by numerous undefended shots to her head. The referee stopped the bout with 12 seconds remaining. Muhammad Ali was in attendance and kissed his daughter.[21]

I replaced the useless footnote

http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/boxing/2006-11-01-ali-burton_x.htm with

http://www.womenboxing.com/lailaali.htm

Reason for removal:

1. The footnote neither supports the word "disputed" nor offers any useful reference whatsoever.

2. Extensive Google reference gave no indication of dispute or booing. The closest to "dispute" was a quote from Ali stating that Ali felt that the fight was stopped before Ali was able to deliver a full counted knockout.

3. The crowd cheered immediately upon the referee's action. (No dispute.)

4. The loser hugged the victor twice immediately afterwards. (No dispute.)

It's all on youtube. I never see youtube shown as a footnote - should it be? (v=5uIJgcqGPus)24.27.72.99 (talk) 21:41, 16 June 2017 (UTC)
